Adhesive Capsulitis (Frozen Shoulder): Causes, Symptoms, and Treatments
What is Adhesive Capsulitis (Frozen Shoulder)?
Adhesive capsulitis, commonly known as frozen shoulder, is characterized by stiffness and pain in the shoulder due to thickening and tightening of the joint capsule.

01
Symptoms
-
Progressive stiffness and pain in the shoulder
-
Significant reduction in the range of motion
-
Three stages: freezing (pain and limited motion), frozen (stiffness increases, pain may decrease), and thawing (gradual return of motion)
02
Risk Factors
-
Diabetes: Higher risk due to altered blood flow and tissue structure
-
Thyroid disorders: Associated with an increased risk
-
Prolonged immobility: After surgery or injury
-
Age: Most common in individuals aged 40-60
03
Treatment
-
Physical Therapy: To improve range of motion and reduce stiffness
-
Pain Management: NSAIDs or acetaminophen
-
Ultrasound-Guided Injections: Reducing inflammation and pain
-
Surgical Intervention: In cases of severe and persistent stiffness
